Recognized for Employment Law Achievement
On March 15, 2016, the Daily Journal awarded its 2016 California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year (CLAY) Awards to attorneys throughout the state, including three at Altshuler Berzon LLP.
Michael Rubin (who has won five CLAY awards), Jonathan Weissglass (who has won three CLAY awards), and Eric P. Brown won in the category of Employment Law for a class action on behalf of 2,000 low-wage immigrant warehouse workers in four Inland Empire warehouses owned by Walmart.
After four years of litigation, U.S. District Court Judge Christina A. Snyder granted final approval of a $22.7 million settlement on behalf of warehouse workers at the Walmart warehouses going back to 2001. As a result of the settlement, several class members received more than $80,000 each, while dozens received more than $20,000 each. The litigation also obtained a TRO and three preliminary injunctions to require accurate recordkeeping and prevent the mass retaliatory termination of warehouse workers.
