ABOUT ALTSHULER BERZON

Altshuler Berzon LLP is a San Francisco law firm that specializes in labor and employment, constitutional, environmental, civil rights, and campaign and election litigation, at both the trial court and appellate levels. Our offices are located just off Union Square in downtown San Francisco, at the same 177 Post Street location where we began our law practice more than 30 years ago.

Most of the firm's cases are in federal and state courts in California and other western states, but our attorneys also regularly appear in significant cases before courts throughout the country as well as before administrative agencies.

The firm was founded by two former legal services attorneys, Fred Altshuler and Stephen Berzon, and by Marsha Berzon, who was a partner at the firm until her appointment to the Ninth Circuit in 2000. Most of the firm's current partners were formerly associates at the firm, and the other partners joined the firm as laterals from other law firms or public interest organizations.

Altshuler Berzon LLP has earned a nationwide reputation for litigation excellence. Our attorneys are regularly recognized in "Best Lawyers in America" and similar publications for their expertise in labor, employment, environmental, and appellate law. We are often asked by clients and other lawyers to handle litigation involving important issues of first impression, particularly cases raising constitutional and public policy issues. In addition to representing clients in litigation, we provide client counseling, assist in drafting legislation, and represent clients in collective bargaining, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings.

The firm's clients have historically included labor federations, international and local labor unions, workers, consumers, and public interest organizations. In recent years, we have particularly expanded our representation of plaintiffs in class actions and in environmental litigation. We also defend public interest groups against SLAPP suits, and we often represent law firms and public interest organizations on statutory and common fund attorneys' fees matters.

Altshuler Berzon LLP now has 22 attorneys, as well as litigation assistants and paralegals. We customarily hire four to five summer associates each year through on-campus and in-house interviews. We welcome applications for associate positions throughout the year. More information about applying is available on the recruiting section of this website.
